Read Luke 3:1-22
1. Why do you think Luke includes so many historical details (verses 1-2) about rulers and high priests? How does this help us understand John’s ministry?
2. What was John the Baptist’s role in preparing the way for Jesus (verses 3-6)? How does this connect with Isaiah’s prophecy?
3. John calls the crowds a “brood of vipers” (verse 7). Why does he challenge them so harshly?
4. John warns the crowd to not rely on their Abrahamic ancestry to save them from the coming judgement. What things might people today go to in order to obtain a false security?
5. John calls people to show fruits in keeping with repentance, What is the relationship between true repentance and a changed life?
6. In what ways does Jesus offer far more than John the Baptist?
