LUKE - WEEK 13

Pray

Read Luke 8:40-56

1. What stands out to you from this passage? What questions does it raise?
2. What do we learn about Jairus and the woman from their approaches to Jesus? How are they similar? How are they different?
3. The suffering the bleeding woman is experienced is multifaceted (physical, financial, relational, religious) How might she been feeling after 12 years of no respite?
4. Jesus refers to the woman as ‘daughter’ What does this reveal about his heart to her in light of the broader passage?
5. Jesus touches both the unclean woman and the dead girl—acts that should have made Him unclean, yet instead they are healed. What does this tell us about who Jesus is?
6. In verse 50, Jesus tells Jairus: “Do not fear; only believe.” What might it have felt like to hear those words after receiving the news of his daughter’s death?
7. What encouragement or hope is there from this passage as we think through facing moments of suffering today?

Application
8. In our suffering, we have a choice between running to God or away from Him? Where do you see that tension in your own life?

9. How do we sometimes try to cope with pain apart from God? What would it look like to bring that pain to Jesus instead?
