Pray to begin that throughout the Gospel of Luke, even in familiar texts we will have eyes and hearts that can perceive God’s Glory and Goodness, and that we would draw near to him in that.

Read Luke 1:26-45

  1. How does Gabriel describe Jesus in verses 31-33? What does this tell us about His identity?

  2. How does Mary respond to the angel’s message? What stands out about her faith?

  3. What is revealed about God’s character in this section?

    Read Luke 1:46-56

  4. What stands out to you in Mary’s prayer

  5. In verses 46-49, Mary praises God for what He has done for her personally. What does this teach us about gratitude in our own lives?

  6. Mary acknowledges her lowliness (v. 48) and marvels that God has chosen her. Why is humility so central to the way God works?

  7. How does God’s choice of Mary reflect the way His kingdom operates?

  8. How does Mary’s song point forward to what Jesus will accomplish?

  9. Which aspects of Mary’s prayer seem most foreign/ absent from your own personal prayer life? How does this challenge your own prayer life?
