Where do people turn when they are unsure what to do with their lives? How would most people try to answer the question "What is my life for?”
Read Genesis 12:1-9
What stood out to you? What questions did the chapter raise?
What does God ask Abram to leave behind? What would this have meant for his identity, relationships and security?
What does Abram know about his future, and what is still unknown when he sets out?
What does God promise Abram? Look back at Genesis 11:30 and notice Abram’s age in 12:4. What might have made these promises difficult to believe?
Who does God intend to bless through Abram? How does this challenge the idea that God’s blessing is mainly about making our own lives better?
Read Hebrews 11:8–10.
What does Abram’s response show us about faith?
What are some things that you say you ‘Believe’ that do not always translate to action?
